Between 2009 and 2018, around 1,850 MW of new capacity for small hydropower were installed in Vietnam. By 2018, small hydro accounted for just under 6% of Vietnam’s energy mix. Small hydro is seen as more sustainable than larger hydroplants as the impact on the surroundings is drastically reduced.
