With plenty of solar irradiation, Thailand has great potential for solar power. In recognition of this, installed solar capacity in Thailand has skyrocketed in recent years. Its total installed solar PV generating capacity increased tenfold in the first half of the 2010s, which is promising for Thailand’s target of 6 000 MW of installed solar PV capacity by 2036. The halfway mark (3 000 MW of installed capacity) was passed in 2017. In 2022, just under 13 TWh were produced from solar power. More recently, Thailand has been experimenting with hybrid hydro-solar projects, and currently has one of the largest such projects in the world.
