Son Tra 1A hydropower plant

The Son Tra 1 A hydro powerplant is located in Quang Ngai province of Vietnam, in operration since 2018. With an installed capacity of 30 MW, it produces 150 GWh of renewable electricity annually. Hydropower is an important source of electricity in Vietnam – as the largest source of renewable electricity, it is spearheading the energy transition. It is the second largest source of electricity nationally after coal, accounting for almost a third of energy production. Due to its topographical differences and varying altitudes, Vietnam has significant potential for exploiting hydropower. While hydro is already an important source of electricity for Vietnam, much of its potential remains as yet untapped.
