Morocco is second only to South Africa in terms of installed wind capacity in Africa.
FACTS
Total installed capacity
1 788 MW
Long-term sustainability target
52% renewable energy by 2030
Morocco has favourable conditions for wind power which, if exploited, could help the country achieve its goal of 52% renewable energy by 2030. However, this will require a significant increase in the installed capacity of wind power. Offshore wind in particular is a particularly attractive opportunity in Morocco. While Morocco has the potential for 25 GW of wind capacity, it currently only has 1.8 GW installed.
