The Science-Based Targets Initiative has verified PMI’s target of achieving net-zero by 2040. Intermediary goals include a 50% reduction of Scope 2 emissions by 2030 (compared to 2019 emissions). In addition, in December 2022, PMI was awarded a triple-A score by the CDP for the third year running – a score that is awarded to companies CDP recognises as sustainability pioneers. PMI was one of 12 companies globally (out of 1,000) to receive this rating. “As a company with a multinational environmental footprint, we have a role to play in protecting our planet and are determined to remain at the forefront of the climate-neutral agenda,” said Massimo Andolina, SVP, Operations. “By recognizing PMI as a climate leader, CDP encourages us to persist on our endeavors.”
The production of renewable electricity is certified by Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). These are the accepted legal instrument through which claims of renewable energy generation and consumption are substantiated in the global renewable energy market. There are different types of EAC for different regions of the world, and they are all in compliance with the quality criteria set by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol in the latest Scope 2 guidance document.
