Social and Environmental Impact

This power plant has a positive impact on its local environment and community. It reduces the amount of agricultural waste being burned outdoors and releasing methane into the atmosphere.

In addition, it benefits the local economy because sugar cane leaves are bought from local farmers for the production of electricity. Moreover, the workers at the power plant are from the area. The power plant is thus a provider of jobs and income in the region.

The power plant has also been a learning centre for school and university students, as well as for the general public, by providing information and insight into engineering career paths.
